톨스토이의 단편 <위조지폐>의 모티브를 각색한 브레송의 마지막 영화. 주인공의 삶을 송두리째 파괴하는 한 장의 위조지폐를 통해 세계의 악을 지배하는 돈의 이미지를 가장 명징하게 보여주고 있는 작품이다. 돈이 신의 자리를 대신해버린 현대사회에서 은총이나 계시는 존재하지 않으며 구원 역시 불가능하다. (2011년 제6회 시네바캉스 서울 )
