좀비 영화계의 거장 조지 로메로의 <살아있는 시체들의 밤> 시리즈 중 3번째 작품인 <데이 오브 더 데드>를 리메이크 한 작품이다. 미국의 한 작은 마을을 배경으로 군부대에서 비밀리에 진행되던 실험에서 문제가 생기게 되고, 좀비 바이러스가 온 마을에 퍼지면서 마을 사람들이 좀비로 변해간다. 이 마을이 고향인 여군 사라는 특별훈련 임무를 배정받아서 마을에 오게 되지만, 자신의 가족과 마을 사람들이 끔찍하게 변해가는 모습을 보고 일행들과 함께 마을을 빠져나갈 계획을 세우며 좀비에 맞서게 된다.
