운은진에서 연쇄 살인 사건이 연이어 발생하자, 민심이 술렁거리기 시작한다. 하여 민심을 바로 잡기 위해 하신에게 제사를 지내기로 한다. 의사 도염은 사건을 수사하라는 명령을 받고 제자를 데리고 사건을 수사하던 중 우연히 사건을 목격한 여우 화지를 구하고 또 술을 목숨처럼 좋아하는 호술사 소숙을 알게 된다
