제주도에서 부모님과 헤어져서 유년기를 보내게 된 성모는 이웃들의 돌봄과 동시에 학대를 받는다. 결국 집을 나와 친구들의 도움으로 서울에 있는 부모님과 재회하지만 새엄마와의 갈등이 시작 되고 학교마저 그만 두게 된다. 어느새 19살이 된 성모, 4세 때 집을 나간 친 엄마를 수소문 끝에 찾아 나서게 된다.
