결혼기념일을 맞아 남편과 외딴 호숫가 별장을 찾은 엠마. 달콤한 하룻밤을 보낸 이튿날 깨어나보니 오른 손엔 수갑이 채워져있고 남편은 보란듯이 엠마 앞에서 권총 자살을 한다. 수갑 한쪽은 죽은 남편 팔에 채워져 있어 행동이 자유롭지 않은데다 외부와의 연락은 단절되어 있고 별장은 난방도 되지 않아 이대로 있을 수만은 없다. 엠마는 곧 이 모든 것이 남편의 부하직원과 불륜을 벌인 자신을 벌하기 위해 남편이 미리 계획해 놓은 일임을 알게 되는데
