도쿄 가츠시카구의 아파트에서 시가현 거주의 오시타니 미치코의 교살 시체가 발견되는 것부터 시작된다.피해 현장이었던 아파트 주인 코시카와 무츠오도 행방불명으로 두 사람의 접점은 전혀 발견되지 않아 마츠미야 (미조바타 준페이) 경시청 수사 1과의 수사는 난항. 이윽고 미치코는 학생 시절의 동급생 아사이 히로미를 만나기 위해 도쿄로 왔다는 사실이 판명되지만 히로미와 무츠오는 접점이 없다. 마츠미야는 근처에서 발견된 불에 탄 시체와의 관련되어 있을 것이라 의심
