미국 정보원 소속의 재미교포 피터는 고가의 그림을 팔아 돈을 마련하기 위해 서울로 온다. 하지만 그림이 노출되는 걸 꺼리는 사람들은 그의 뒤를 쫓으며 일거수일투족을 감시한다. 피터는 어릴 적부터 친동생처럼 지내온 혜진의 도움으로 은밀한 거래를 시작한다. 상대는 베스트셀러를 쓰고 싶은 소설가 지윤. 글을 쓰는데 특별한 영감이 필요했던 그녀는 미국 정보원이 장물 거래를 한다는 것에 솔깃하여 흔쾌히 승낙한다. 이들의 거래는 무사히 성사되고 지윤은 그림의 도움
