1992년, 터키 출신의 유누스는 아내와 두 자녀를 데리고 카자흐스탄의 심켄트로 향하는 기차에 몸을 싣는다.
유누스는 카자흐스탄의 작은 마을에 학교를 세우기 위해 가족들까지 카자흐스탄으로 데려온다. 한편, 심켄트 역에는 누군가를 오래도록 애타게 기다리고 있는 한 노모, 젠네트와 그의 아들 베델이 있다.
제2차 세계대전 당시 나치는 터키와 캅카스산맥에서 백만 명 이상의 포로를 강제 노동 수용소로 데려가 노역을 시켰다.
