화물선이 폭파되면서 바다에 떨어진 진은 폭풍에 배가 난파되어 섬 인근에서 표류 중이던 다니엘 루소 일행에 의해 구조된다. 루소는 당시 임신 7개월이었다. 진은 이들이 연기 괴물에게 동료를 잃는 광경과 태아의 아버지인 로베흐가 루소가 쏜 총에 맞아 죽임을 당하는 광경을 목격한다.
