젬마는 사이먼과 가정을 유지하고 아무 일도 없었다는 듯이 지내기로 마음먹고 평소처럼 병원에 출근한다. 그러나 병원에는 젬마에 대한 불만사항이 접수되고 시어머니의 자살에 젬마가 도움을 준 것 같다는 오해까지 겹쳐 조사가 끝날 때까지 당분간 젬마는 병원에 출근할 수 없게 된다. 게다가 외도관계를 완전히 정리한 줄 알았던 사이먼이 다시 케이트랑 만나는 장면을 목격한 젬마는 감정을 주체하지 못하고 어디론가 떠나는데
