마냥 사람 좋은 중년 남자가 원인 불명의 증상으로 실신해 병원에 실려 온다. 무엇이든지 좋게만 받아들이는 환자를 비정상적이라고 판단한 하우스는 팀원들과 함께 그 원인을 캐기 위해 뛰어든다. 몇 차례의 발작 후에 남자는 신경매독인 것으로 판명이 나지만, 하우스마저 혈액 검사 결과 매독이라는 판정이 나온다.
