제 2차 세계대전이 막바지로 치닫던 때. 노르망디 상륙작전이 시작되기 몇 시간 전 연합군은 노르망디 해변을 지키는 독일군 후방에 미 제101, 82공수사단을 투입하려 한다. 이중 101 공수사단 506연대 이지 중대는 1942년부터 조지아 주 토코아에서 창설되어 상륙작전 직전까지 괴팍한 중대장 소벨 대위의 지휘 아래 혹독한 훈련을 거친다.
